Shedeur Sanders Switching Play-Call Wristbands During Browns vs. Bears Explained by HC

Timothy RappDec 15, 2025

Wristband Gate has now been addressed and dismissed.

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski explained why Shedeur Sanders needed to change wristbands during Sunday's 31-3 blowout loss against the Chicago Bears.

"Obviously had the wristband, it was good on the first drive," he told reporters. "At some point after the first drive one of the cards must've fallen out of Shedeur's wristband. So when he went to that panel to look for it, it wasn't in there. We have Bailey [Zappe] on the sidelines, we have Dillon [Gabriel] on the sidelines, where he can swap out and grab their wristbands. So you always have to be prepared for those type of things. You have to be prepared if the headset goes out. You have to have those automatics if the headset goes out."

Sanders, who threw three interceptions in the loss, also told reporters one of the cards simply fell out during the game:

There was some question about whether the Browns might have had the wrong plays on Sanders' wristband, though it would appear that he simply had one of the cards fall out. Occam's Razor prevails.
