Chris Jones Asks if Chiefs Are Out of NFL Playoffs After Mahomes Injury in Viral Video

The Kansas City Chiefs have been eliminated from playoff contention for the first time since 2014, so it's understandable that some players aren't used to this feeling.

Following Sunday's loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones was unaware that the team was already out of the playoff picture, telling reporters, "We still have a fighting chance," before asking, "Are we out of the playoffs?" and receiving confirmation in real-time.

The Chiefs had represented the AFC in the last three Super Bowls, winning two of them. Sunday's loss to the Chargers snapped their streaks of 10 consecutive playoff appearances, 10 consecutive 10-win seasons and nine consecutive AFC West titles.

Kansas City will likely face multiple questions this offseason, as veteran players could be nearing the end of their time with the franchise.

"Success is rented every year," Jones said, per ESPN's Nate Taylor. "Sometimes it don't go the way you planned for it to go. I think we learned a lot this year. We can be mad at ourselves, and we can ask God why. But at times, it's a lesson that you're being taught along the journey. We'd be selfish to ask God why. Why right now? Why this? We more so [have] to understand it and build from it."

The Chiefs' morale took an even bigger hit when star quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a season-ending torn ACL with less than two minutes remaining in the game.

"I just hugged him, man," Jones said. "That's my brother. We've been through so much. We love Pat."

The Chiefs (6-8) will try to end their three-game losing streak when they meet the Tennessee Titans (2-12) next Sunday.
