Did Matthew Stafford Clinch NFL MVP? Fans React After Rams Win vs. Lions amid Injuries

The NFL MVP race is over.

Well, at least according to a number of NFL fans, who have crowned Matthew Stafford the definitive frontrunner after he threw for 368 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in a crucial 41-34 win over the Detroit Lions that kept the Rams No. 1 in the NFC.

Granted, it helped that the Rams (11-3) gashed Detroit on the ground, rushing for 159 yards and three touchdowns, or that the defense slowed down the Lions (8-6) in the second half after giving up 24 points in the first two quarters.

But in a year without a runaway MVP candidate, Stafford has emerged as the favorite. Just ask social media:

There will be those who argue that Josh Allen should repeat, given that he has fewer weapons than Stafford, or that Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor is most deserving.

But Stafford has now thrown 37 touchdown passes to just five interceptions and is leading the top team in the loaded NFC. The 37-year-old also has never won the award in an otherwise distinguished career, so the narrative is pretty juicy.

There will be some concern after Davante Adams left the game with a hamstring injury and the oft-injured Puka Nacua also left the game with cramps (though he did return). But Stafford is dealing, and that gives the Rams a chance against anybody.

Meanwhile, his former team is now on life support. The Lions are 1.5 games back of the Green Bay Packers for the final Wild Card berth and two games back in the NFC North and have to get through the Pittsburgh Steelers, Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears in an effort to save their season.

It's a tall task for the Lions. In L.A., however, Stafford and the Rams are thinking MVP... and maybe a Super Bowl title as well.
