Gunther Makes Bold Declaration on IG After John Cena Taps Out in WWE Retirement Match
After sending John Cena to retirement with a submission loss at Saturday Night's Main Event, Gunther took to social media for a victory lap.
Gunther posted a photo on Instagram on Sunday with the caption, "Pro Wrestling > Sports Entertainment," to celebrate his win over Cena, who tapped out for the first time in over 20 years.

Gunther's caption is a reference to the common criticism levied against Cena throughout his career. The 48-year-old was considered more of a sports entertainer than a traditional pro wrestler, while Gunther has always been known as a performer who is committed to upholding the roots of the business.
Gunther fully embraced the heel role throughout the night, even going as far as arguing with a young fan. He also received a ton of heat from the live audience for defeating Cena, needing security as he exited Capitol One Arena in Washington, D.C.
In addition to defeating Cena in his retirement match, Gunther also retired Goldberg earlier this year. The Ring General seems to be well on his way to becoming the next "Legend Killer," and it can be expected that he will be WWE's top heel going forward.
