Triple H Booed By WWE Crowd After John Cena Loses Retirement Match vs. Gunther at SNME

WWE fans are not thrilled with how John Cena's final match played out.

The retiring WWE Superstar tapped out for the first time in his career at Saturday Night's Main Event against Gunther, and fans took out their frustrations on chief content officer Triple H.

"I'm actually mildly disappointed," Triple H said of the crowd booing him and yelling profanities toward him after the match. "I thought it would be so much louder."

There are two ways of looking at Cena's final match in the ring.

The first is that it was completely unexpected and generated the sort of huge, divisive reaction that has defined Cena's time in the WWE. In the process, he gave Gunther a huge boost, and tapping out to end his career should help reinforce the notion that he's well and truly done as a wrestler.

But many fans felt Cena's legendary career deserved a better ending. There was a sort of anticlimactic feel to his final moments.

However you fall on Cena's final match, the 17-time world champion elicited one final big reaction. So while some fans may be angry at Triple H, it's hard to imagine Cena's debut would have ended in that fashion had he protested.

The smile that crept onto his face just before he tapped said it all. His time is up.
