Reports: Lind Linked to Cardinals

Monday, July 27

The National League Central-leading St. Louis Cardinals have engaged in trade talks about Lind with Milwaukee, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Derrick Goold.

ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick confirmed Goold's report but was uncertain about the chances of a deal going down. Jayson Stark of ESPN followed up by saying other teams pursuing Lind feel he's going to wind up in St. Louis.

Drew Silva of NBCSports.com highlighted the batting upgrade Lind could provide for St. Louis at first base:

At least on the surface, this appears to be a bad look for the Brewers. They were in last place entering Monday's games and may be casting off a quality player in Lind who still has one year left on his contract.

But if Milwaukee can procure a solid prospect or two from St. Louis' farm system, a trade may be the best big-picture move for the struggling franchise.

The Cardinals could use Lind's hitting in a lineup that lacks firepower, ranking 19th in runs scored despite sporting the best record in baseball. Per FanGraphs, Lind has posted a 135 weighted runs created plus (wRC+) in 92 games with the Brewers this season.
