Edwin Diaz Changes Jersey Number After Dodgers Contract in MLB Free Agency
Julia StumbaughDec 12, 2025
Edwin Díaz will wear No. 3 for his first season with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The former New York Mets closer most recently wore No. 39, which has been retired by the Dodgers in honor of Roy Campanella.
Díaz told Dodgers Nation's Doug McKain he chose the number in honor of his three sons.
Díaz signed a three-year, $69 million deal with the Dodgers after opting out of the final two seasons of his previous contract with the Mets.
The two-time defending champions will now hope Díaz's arrival can help solve bullpen depth issues that left the Dodgers putting starters like Blake Snell and Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the mound to close out games in the 2025 World Series.
