Pete Alonso will wear No. 25 with the Baltimore Orioles.

Alonso, who wore No. 20 for seven seasons with the New York Mets, said in a video shared Friday by the Orioles he chose his new number because his son was born in 2025.

The Orioles have retired No. 20 in honor of Frank Robinson, who led the franchise to four World Series appearances in six seasons with the team.

Alonso and his wife, Haley Alonso, meanwhile welcomed their first child in October.

No. 25 was most recently worn in Baltimore by outfielder Greg Allen and catcher Jacob Stallings, who combined for 21 appearances with the Orioles last season.

Alonso joined the Orioles on a five-year, $155 million contract after opting out of the final season on his previous deal with the Mets.

He slashed .272/.347/.524 with 41 doubles and 38 home runs in his final season with the Mets while appearing in 162 games for a second straight campaign.

The Orioles are hoping adding the veteran slugger to their batting order will help Baltimore's young core take a step forward after missing the postseason in 2025.
