Aaron Rodgers Hypes 'Incredible' Philip Rivers After NFL Return, Jokes About QB's Age

Zach BacharDec 11, 2025

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers discussed the Indianapolis Colts' recent signing of fellow veteran Philip Rivers on Thursday.

"Well, I'm not the oldest guy in the league," Rodgers joked with reporters. "Love that. It's pretty incredible, though. He's been out for I believe four full seasons, plus part of this season. I was laughing because a couple buddies hit me up asking what I would do in the situation, and I said, without missing a beat, 'I'm retired. I'm staying retired.' So, big credit to Phil. I've been a fan of his forever."

Rodgers, at 42 years of age, was the oldest player in the NFL before the Colts signed the 44-year-old Rivers to their practice squad on Wednesday.

Indianapolis was on the hunt for an addition to its quarterback room after Daniel Jones suffered a season-ending torn Achilles on Sunday.

The Colts are still in the AFC playoff race with a record of 8-5, but have lost four of their past five games.

Rivers is an eight-time Pro Bowl passer whose 63,440 pass yards rank No. 7 on the NFL's all-time leaderboard, but hasn't appeared in a game since the 2020 season.

He entered the league in 2004 and spent the first 16 years of his career as a member of the Los Angeles Chargers organization before joining the Colts for his 2020 campaign.

Miami Dolphins signal-caller Tua Tagovailoa was impressed with the longevity of both Rivers and Rodgers, who was drafted in 2005.

"Now we got Rivers back too? That's dope! These are guys I used to watch when I was young, young," Tagovailoa said, per ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques.

While the Colts and Steelers already played against each other in Week 9 this season, the experienced quarterbacks could still end up facing off in a potential playoff matchup.
