Will Josh Jacobs Play This Week? Should You Add Emanuel Wilson In Fantasy Football?
Josh Jacobs' status is still up in the air for this Sunday's contest against the Denver Broncos.
The Green Bay Packers running back told reporters Thursday that he underwent an MRI to ensure he hadn't worsened his previous knee injury, and the results came back clean. Still, he said he's dealing with swelling and hasn't decided whether he'll play this week.
That being said, it could be a smart choice to pick up Emanuel Wilson if he's available in your fantasy league, as he might see the majority of touches this week.
According to FantasyPros, Wilson is rostered in 27 percent of Yahoo leagues and 35 percent of ESPN leagues.
Wilson, who is in his third NFL season, has been a solid backup to Jacobs this season, rushing for 351 yards and three touchdowns and adding 87 yards through the air.
When Jacobs missed the Packers' Week 12 contest against the Minnesota Vikings because of a knee injury, Wilson got the start and made the most of it, collecting 107 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns in a 23-6 win. That performance netted him 24.5 fantasy points, per FantasyPros.
If Jacobs is unable to suit up this week, it's fair to expect another big game from Wilson, though it's worth noting that the Packers will be going up against one of the league's best defenses in the Broncos this week.
Jacobs, who is in his second season with Green Bay, has had another solid season, albeit not quite as good as last year's campaign. In 12 games, he's rushed for 817 yards and 12 touchdowns, which are the third-most in the NFL this season. He's also picked up 251 yards through the air.
In last week's win over the Chicago Bears, he had 86 rushing yards and a touchdown.
The Packers have just about secured a playoff spot at this point, but they're still hoping to clinch their first division title since 2021. At 9-3-1, Green Bay sits atop the NFC North, but the Bears and Detroit Lions are still in the mix to win the division crown.
Having Jacobs on the field for Sunday's game against one of the league's top teams would give the Packers' division title hopes a significant boost.
