Padres Likely to Move Ross by Deadline
Thursday, July 30
Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported executives are convinced Ross moves before Friday's deadline passes with the Cubs pushing hard to get a deal done.
Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports first reported the Cubs' interest on July 27 with Jon Heyman of CBS Sports adding the Toronto Blue Jays, Houston Astros, Los Angeles Dodgers and Texas Rangers as interested as well.
Ross, 28, has posted solid numbers this season, going 7-8 with a 3.38 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 137 strikeouts in 127.2 innings pitched.
When he's on his game, Ross has nasty stuff and is downright dominant, though he isn't always able to maintain that level throughout a start. Still, for a contending team looking to add pitching help without paying the prices for some of the elite talent on the market, like Cole Hamels or David Price, Ross is certainly one of the most appealing options available.
