Rams' Davante Adams Reflects on Telling Matthew Stafford He'd Retire When QB Does

Zach BacharDec 10, 2025

Los Angeles Rams receiver Davante Adams elaborated on his conversation with quarterback Matthew Stafford regarding the pair retiring at the same time.

Adams revealed that his discussion with Stafford was "kind of a joke, but kind of serious" when speaking to reporters on Wednesday.

The wideout previously detailed his retirement perspective when speaking to Rams play-by-play broadcaster J.B. Long on the Rams Revealed show.

"No, there's no reason why he couldn't or shouldn't," Adams said (h/t Mike Masala of Rams Wire). "I'm working on that...I'm willing to do this as long as- I told him, I actually made a joke, whenever you stop, I'm done, so it's up to you."

Adams and Stafford are looking to close out their first season as teammates on a high note, with Los Angeles currently owning the No. 1 spot in the NFC playoff picture by boasting a 10-3 record.

The Rams brought in Adams as a free agent on a two-year contract worth $46 million in March.

The six-time Pro Bowler has become a key piece of Los Angeles' passing attack, catching 56 passes for 718 yards through 13 games. Adams' 14 touchdown receptions are five more than any other player in the NFL.

As for Stafford, he's put himself in the MVP conversation with his 2025 campaign.

He's completed 66.7 percent of his throws for 3,354 yards and 35 touchdowns, getting picked off just four times. Stafford's average of 7.8 yards per attempt is his highest since 2021, the season in which he helped the Rams secure a Super Bowl title.

While both players have thrived this year, it's worth noting that Stafford will turn 38 years old on Feb. 7 and contemplated retirement at the end of last season. As for Adams, he'll be 33 years old on Dec. 24.

For now, the duo will focus on helping the Rams secure their playoff future and attempt to go on a deep postseason run.
