Michael Pittman Talks Super Bowl Expectations After Philip Rivers Signs Colts Contract

Andrew PetersDec 9, 2025

The Indianapolis Colts had Super Bowl dreams before Daniel Jones' breakout season came to an end because of a torn Achilles.

But with Philip Rivers coming out of retirement to join the team, the Colts still believe a Super Bowl is in play. At least, wide receiver Michael Pittman thinks it's possible.

"If there's one guy to call who can do something like this, it's definitely [Philip Rivers]... A Super Bowl, that's my realistic expectation," Pittman said on the Up & Adams show.

Rivers is 44 years old and will replace Aaron Rodgers as the oldest player in the NFL if he is elevated from the practice squad. But he reportedly hasn't spent the last few seasons lying around, as one person close to Rivers told The Athletic's Dianna Russini that he is in better shape now than when he played.

Rivers, who spent most of his career with the Chargers, played his final season with the Colts in 2020, throwing for 4,169 yards, 24 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Indianapolis was desperate to add a quarterback to its roster after a plethora of injuries. Along with losing Jones, backup Anthony Richardson is still on the injured reserve, and rookie quarterback Riley Leonard is also dealing with a knee injury.

It's unclear yet whether Rivers will be activated to the roster, but the Colts may have no other choice.

Even if Rivers is in shape, a Super Bowl appearance would be nothing short of a miracle considering the veteran would be thrust into action after five years away from the game.

But Rivers, one of the greatest players never to make a Super Bowl, might have just enough motivation to lead Indianapolis to an improbably postseason run.
