David Ortiz Hits 2 Home Runs, Records Career-High 7 RBI Against Tigers

Dan CarsonJul 27, 2015

The Boston Red Sox demolished the Detroit Tigers 11-1 Sunday night at Fenway Park, thanks in large part to an inspired performance from David Ortiz.

The 39-year-old slugger clobbered a pair of three-run homers and added an RBI single, sliding him into 38th overall on MLB's career RBI list with 1,587.

According to the Boston Globe's Peter Abraham, Ortiz's teammates said Big Papi was moved to brilliance after watching Pedro Martinez's Hall of Fame induction speech Sunday afternoon.

"Pedro, that's his guy," Hanley Ramirez told Abraham. "David was smiling. When he hit those home runs, I wasn't surprised."

Ortiz said watching Martinez and company open up off the baseball diamond awakened him to the true scope of the game.

"You know what my relationship with Pedro is," Ortiz said. "Once you hear the guys talking, it takes things to a different level. When you're out of the uniform, there's a another human being behind the whole whole thing. That's something I experienced tonight."

What a day for Dominican Republic dominance in MLB.

Dan is on Twitter watching Pedro strike out 17 Yankees all day.
