John Harbaugh Called NFL Office After Ravens Loss, Says Catch Rule Is 'Clear as Mud'
John Harbaugh believes the NFL's catch rule needs more clarification after the Baltimore Ravens had a go-ahead touchdown called back in a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
"It's about as clear as mud right now," Harbaugh said Monday, per ESPN's Jamison Hensley. "That's how I feel about it."
According to Hensley, Harbaugh called the NFL office on Monday and spoke to senior vice president of officiating administration Perry Fewell and NFL officiating rules analyst Walt Anderson. Harbaugh discussed the call that overturned Isaiah Likely's touchdown and an interception of Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

"It didn't clear anything up," Harbaugh said. "It didn't make it any easier to understand either one of the two calls. They're very hard to understand how they get overturned, but they did and that's where it stands."
Likely made a catch in the endzone that would have given the Ravens a one-point lead, but he had the ball punched out by Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. before making a third step in the end zone. According to NFL vice president of instant replay Mark Butterworth, the third step is "an act common to the game" and needed to be completed in order for it to be ruled a touchdown.
The Ravens fell to 6-7 with the loss, putting their playoff hopes in serious jeopardy.
