Stoke Medical for Afellay
Monday, July 27
Sky Sports News HQ tweeted confirmation that Afellay is undergoing a medical at the Britannia Stadium on Monday.
The 29-year-old has endured a frustrating career since leaving PSV Eindhoven in 2011, suffering injury problems and a lack of playing time at Camp Nou.
He spent 2012-13 on loan at Schalke and most recently joined Olympiacos on a temporary deal before being let go by Barca at the conclusion of their most recent treble-winning campaign.
Stoke boss Mark Hughes has proven keen to add technical players who are quality in possession in a bid to escape the physical reputation former boss Tony Pulis established at the club.
Affelay is destined to become the fourth former Barca player to join the Potters after Marc Muniesa, Bojan Krkic and Moha El Ouriachi. Skybet's Jonathan Witty noted, "Stoke [are] going for that 2011 Barca look this season."
Big things will be expected of the prospective new signing, along with Chelsea loanee Marco van Ginkel.
