Are Mahomes, Chiefs' Playoff Hopes Over? NFL Fans Question Andy Reid in Loss to Texans

Taylyn Hadley Dec 8, 2025

After a disastrous fourth quarter, the Kansas City Chiefs fell 20-10 to the Houston Texans on Sunday at home, dropping to 6-7 as their playoff hopes continued to dwindle.

Entering the fourth tied at 10 apiece, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs threw two interceptions and turned the ball over twice on fourth downs, sealing a costly loss to a Texans team that improved to 8-5.

Mahomes threw for 160 yards and three interceptions without a touchdown, completing 14-of-33 passes. Kareem Hunt scored Kansas City's lone touchdown on the ground.

Fans called out Andy Reid's play calling and sounded alarms over the Chiefs' playoff outlook after the loss.

Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud battled, finishing with 203 yards and one touchdown while completing 15-of-31 passes.

The loss dealt a major blow to the Chiefs' playoff hopes, dropping them three spots behind Houston in the AFC standings and falling to 6-7 with head-to-head tiebreakers working against them. Kansas City is now part of a three-way tie with Baltimore and Miami.

The setback pushed the Chiefs further out of the Wild Card race at No. 10 and officially eliminated them from having any chance to win the AFC West.

With the win, Houston climbed the AFC South standings, pulling even with the Indianapolis Colts at 8-5, taking over second place and moving into the final Wild Card spot in the AFC by holding the tiebreaker over Indianapolis.
