Matt LaFleur Talks Ben Johnson Handshake, Packers' Win vs. Bears Amid NFL Playoff Race
Matt LaFleur wasn't interested in having a lengthy conversation with Ben Johnson after the Green Bay Packers beat the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
After the win, the Packers coach shook Johnson's head but continued quickly past him on the field. LaFleur didn't suggest any ill will between the two coaches after the game.
"Just a quick handshake," LaFleur told reporters. "We'll see them again in two weeks."
The Packers-Bears rivalry is one of the biggest in sports, and Johnson, the former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator, perhaps intensified the rivalry shortly after being hired by the Bears when he took a job at LaFleur.
"To be quite frank with you, I kinda enjoyed beating Matt LaFleur twice a year," he said in January.
But LaFleur said Sunday's win wasn't personal. Instead, he's just happy his team got a crucial win as it looks to win the NFC North.
"No, absolutely not," he said. "It's Packers-Bears. It's a great rivalry. Certainly, with what was at stake in regards to positioning in the NFC North, that's the only thing that matters."
The Packers improved to 9-3-1 with Sunday's win and now sit atop the division, but they can't relax just yet. They'll get another matchup with the Bears in just two weeks in a game that could help decide who wins the NFC North.
