Filipino Heritage Night is set for Friday night's home game at Rogers Arena, which will see the Canucks host the Utah Mammoth at 9 p.m. ET.
Canucks Sports & Entertainment President Michael Doyle released a statement regarding Filipino Heritage Night on the team's official website, saying, "We are honored to host the first Filipino Heritage celebration at Rogers Arena. This inaugural event is a special opportunity to celebrate the Filipino community, whose vibrant culture, rich traditions, and strong sense of unity have had a tremendous impact on our province. The generosity, resilience, and spirit displayed by the community inspires us, and we are proud to celebrate Filipino heritage with our fans."
In addition to utilization of the special logo, Filipino Heritage Night will include a Party on the Plaza prior to the game, Filipino dancing performances and a Filipino Heritage Market, which fans can visit during the game.
The Canucks have also made several pieces of Filipino Heritage Night merchandise available for purchase, including shirts, hoodies, hats, pucks, pins and magnets.
In July, British Columbia Government News wrote that Filipinos make up the "fourth-largest visible minority" in British Columbia, and Metro Vancouver has the second-largest population of Filipino people in Canada.
The Canucks are in the midst of their 56th NHL season after debuting as an expansion team back in 1970.
They have yet to win a Stanley Cup, but they have reached the Stanley Cup Final three times and made 30 playoff appearances during their history.
The Canucks have reached the playoffs just once in the past six seasons, though, and they are off to a slow start this season as their 23 points are the fewest in the Western Conference.
Still, they are only six points out of a playoff spot, and a win on Friday night would go a long way toward getting the Canucks back in the mix.
