Gennadiy Golovkin has long been considered one of the best boxers of his generation, and now he's reached the pinnacle of the sport.

Per the Associated Press, Golovkin was elected into the International Boxing Hall of Fame on Thursday, headlining a 2026 class of inductees that also includes former champions Antonio Tarver and Nigel Benn.

Voting was conducted by members of the Boxing Writers Association of America and a panel of international boxing historians. Golovkin was inducted in his first year on the ballot.

Known as Triple G, Golovkin compiled a record of 42-2-1 with 37 KOs. He reigned as champion at 160 pounds from 2010 to 2018 when he lost to Canelo Alvarez in the second bout of their historic trilogy. His 20 consecutive title defenses tied Hall of Famer Bernard Hopkins for the middleweight division record.

"This is the biggest honor in boxing and the last piece of the puzzle in my career. I'm proud to have a legacy in boxing," Golovkin said after being informed of his induction by the Hall.

Tarver (31-6-1, 22 KOs) was a multiple-time light heavyweight champion who notably defeated the legendary Roy Jones Jr. in two of their three matchups. Benn (42-5-1, 35 KOs) held titles at middleweight and super middleweight, reigning in the latter division for four years.

The 2026 International Boxing Hall of Fame class will be enshrined in the museum in Canastota, New York, in a ceremony scheduled for June 14.
