Manchester United Transfer News: Latest Angel Di Maria and John Stones Rumours

It seems only a matter of time before Angel Di Maria leaves Manchester United, as reports insist Paris Saint-Germain have agreed a deal for the winger. Meanwhile, the Red Devils have turned their attention to Everton starlet John Stones.

According to French newspaper L'Equipe (via Daily Star's Jack Wilson), Di Maria will have a medical in New York in the coming days after United allegedly agreed to sell the star, who missed a flight to the United States on Saturday.

The Argentina international was due to join up with his United team-mates on their pre-season tour of the U.S. prior to their meeting against none other than PSG in the International Champions Cup on Wednesday.

Defender Marcos Rojo also missed the flight because of "passport issues." United manager Louis van Gaal was quoted by BBC Sport's Simon Stone, voicing his confusion as to why Di Maria was absent:

"He was not on the plane. Marcos Rojo was also not on the plane. He has had a passport issue—for Angel Di Maria, I don't know why. I cannot say anything."

Summer preparations appear to be going well for United following their 3-1 victory over Barcelona in the ICC on Saturday, but Di Maria has dealt his club a damaging blow by failing to appear on time.

The winger was granted extra holiday following his participation in the 2015 Copa America. The Times' James Ducker was seemingly unimpressed with any excuses on offer:

PSG have long held links to the former Real Madrid star, but his £59.7 million switch to Old Trafford last summer appeared to put those rumours to bed.

However, a disappointing campaign in the Premier League saw rumours of a swift exit emerge, and former Manchester United star turned PSG boss Laurent Blanc has commented on the proposed deal, per Goal's Travis Durkee:

There is a good possibility he could sign but there's no official news at this time. Of course, there is lots of talk and commentary out there. Paris Saint-Germain are out looking in terms of recruiting an attacking player, whether it be him or someone else.

The anticipation is he's going to come to the United States, as to which jersey he will wear, we do not know yet. Of course if he does make a change, we hope it's for Paris Saint-Germain. There are still two big clubs out there in discussion. Right now we just need to wait.

With the spending power at their disposal, the Ligue 1 champions certainly boast the resources necessary to acquire Di Maria, but they'll undoubtedly look to squeeze a good deal now he seems intent on a move away.

United's meeting with PSG in the ICC now has an extra storyline behind it, with questions abundant as to whom Di Maria will be supporting at Chicago's Soldier Field.

Red Devils Join John Stones Hunt

Everton's outrage with Chelsea's public pursuit of centre-back Stones has left Manchester United hopeful of securing a deal for the defender, it's emerged.

The Mirror's Steve Bates wrote that the Red Devils have been more subtle in their approach for the England international, who was subject to a £20 million bid from the Blues last week.

Bates goes on to name Jonny Evans, Tyler Blackett, Javier Hernandez and Ashley Young as players who could be offered as part of a player-plus-cash deal to tempt the Toffees.

Former Barnsley team-mate Bobby Hassell commented on Stones' link to Chelsea and believes the 21-year-old could excel under Jose Mourinho, telling the Press Association (via Independent's Mark Walker):

I could see him going to play for Mourinho and getting even better. Natural defending is what Mourinho is a master at and John's got everything else—if he was a foreign player everybody would be raving about him.

Stones is quickly rising as one of England's most promising prospects, and the defender looks set to claim a more prominent role under Roberto Martinez this coming season following the exits of Sylvain Distin and Antolin Alcaraz.

Former Premier League midfielder Joey Barton is evidently a fan of the youngster too, comparing his seemingly affordable valuation with that of Raheem Sterling's eye-watering transfer to Manchester City:
