Jerry Rice's Son Brenden Signs Raiders Contract After Seahawks, Patriots Stints
The Las Vegas Raiders are welcoming the son of one of their longtime legends into the fold.
Per Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, the Raiders signed wide receiver Brenden Rice, the son of Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, to their practice squad on Tuesday. Brenden Rice was a seventh-round pick by the Los Angeles Chargers in 2024 and spent time on the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks practice squads.
Before making it to the NFL, the 23-year-old split his college career between Colorado and USC, spending two seasons at each school. He racked up career numbers of 103 catches for 1,674 yards and 20 touchdowns, along with 636 return yard and one return touchdown.

The addition of Rice keeps things in the family for the Raiders, as Jerry Rice starred for the franchise for three-plus seasons when it was still in Oakland from 2001 to 2004 after spending 16 seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. He produced back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in his first two years in the Silver & Black, earning his final career Pro Bowl selection in 2002.
The 2025 season hasn't been very kind to the Raiders, as they rank near the bottom of the league with a 2-10 record. Las Vegas has lost six straight games, most recently falling 31-14 to the Chargers on Sunday. The team hasn't gotten much production from its wide receivers, as second-year tight end Brock Bowers currently leads the team with 573 receiving yards.
Perhaps Rice can work his way up from the practice squad and follow in his father's footsteps as an impact player for the Raiders. For now, Las Vegas will try to end its losing streak when it meets the Denver Broncos (10-2) in Week 14.
