Will Raiders Fire Pete Carroll? Rapoport Says HC on 'Hot Seat' After Chip Kelly's Exit

The Las Vegas Raiders already fired offensive coordinator Chip Kelly amid their ongoing struggles, but more changes reportedly could be coming.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Raiders head coach Pete Carroll appears to be "on the hot seat" due to the team's lack of success in his first year at the helm.

Kelly was the second coordinator fired by Carroll this season, as special teams coordinator Tom McMahon was also dismissed earlier this month. The Raiders have lost five straight games and failed to reach the 20-point mark in their last three.

However, Rapoport indicated that Kelly wasn't the sole problem in Las Vegas, as some around the league feel that Carroll is utilizing an outdated offensive game plan from his time with the Seattle Seahawks.

"Talking to people who know this offense very well, people who've studied this offense, played against it, they do not believe it was Chip Kelly's offense. They believe it was Pete Carroll's offense, specifically the Pete Carroll offense from Seattle 2023," Rapoport reported. "It sounds to me like if Chip Kelly had to do this again, he would not have taken this job."

At 74 years old, Carroll is the oldest active head coach in the NFL. He was expected to lead the Raiders to immediate success, but it appears that the franchise is still searching for answers.

The Raiders (2-9) will try to end their skid when they meet the Los Angeles Chargers (7-4) in an AFC West matchup on Sunday.
