Top MLB Trade Rumors Ahead of 2025 Winter Meetings

Erik BeastonNov 26, 2025

Free agency will dominate the offseason discussion but trades are equally as important to the future of any team looking to make the World Series and win a championship.

Which players may be available and which teams are eyeing them?

Find out in this collection of insider rumors and reports.

Diamondbacks Listening to Offers for Star

Arizona Diamondbacks v. San Diego Padres

The Arizona Diamondbacks signed second baseman Ketel Marte to a six-year deal worth $116.5 million in 2025.

They are now "actively listening" to trade offers, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network.

Payroll and the desire to beef up their starting rotation and bullpen are likely contributors to the decision to field offers for one of their best players, who hit .283, with 28 home runs and 72 RBI this past season.

It was a step back from his MVP-worthy season in 2024 but by no means a major drop off.

Morosi noted that the Toronto Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies are two teams who have already checked in on the second basemen and who have a clear need at that position.

Marte would instantly add to the team's offensive arsenal while bringing defensive play that helped make him a finalist for the Gold Glove at his position.

Cardinals Are Open For Business

St. Louis Cardinals v Chicago Cubs

The St. Louis Cardinals traded starting pitcher Sonny Gray to the Boston Red Sox Tuesday morning.

Jeff Passan of ESPN reported previously that the team is "open for business," noting that "Nolan Arenado is almost certain to waive his no-trade protection and move."

The under-performing organization finished second-to-last in the NL Central in 2025 at 78-84.

Arenado had a down season, tallying less than 100 hits for the first time since 2020, with just 12 home runs and 52 RBI in 107 games.

The superstar third baseman is not the only Cardinal on the trade block, with Brendan Donovan and his 132 hits and .287 average.

The Cardinals have not appeared in the postseason since 2022, when they lost in the wildcard round to the Philadelphia Phillies.

Teams Eyeing the A's Young Lineup

Seattle Mariners v Athletics

Passan also reported that "Teams are trying to get a young bat from the Athletics for controllable starting pitching. They aren't particularly inclined to mess with one of the best lineups in baseball and will focus on the free agent market."

The A's developed into one of the most intriguing and fun teams in MLB in 2025, thanks to a young lineup featuring shortstop Jacob Wilson (.311/.355/.444), and outfielders Nick Kurtz (.290/.383/.619) and Lawrence Butler (.234/306/.404).

It makes sense that teams, knowing full well that the A's typically sell talent before they have to pay them, would look into acquiring them.

Passan added about the A's, "They aren't particularly inclined to mess with one of the best lineups in baseball and will focus on the free agent market."

Nor should they. As the team maintains their hopes of a move to Las Vegas, they will need young, exciting talent to convince people to show up to the ballpark. Holding onto assets like Kurtz, Butler, and Wilson is one way to fill that need.

Building a winner by mixing in the right free agent veterans is another.
