Vikings' Max Brosmer Draws Brock Purdy Comparison from NFL Scout Amid McCarthy Injury
After starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy was placed in concussion protocol this week, the Minnesota Vikings will likely be forced to turn to undrafted rookie signal-caller Max Brosmer to start Sunday's road game against the Seattle Seahawks.
However, the Vikings are reportedly confident in Brosmer despite his lack of experience, with one NFL scout comparing him to San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy.
"He's not flashy, but neither was Brock Purdy when he first got tossed into the fire for the 49ers and won the job," the scout told The Athletic's Dianna Russini.

Purdy famously went from being the last pick in the 2022 NFL draft to the starting quarterback in San Francisco ahead of 2021 No. 3 pick Trey Lance, who is no longer on the team.
Brosmer transferred from New Hampshire to Minnesota for his final season of eligibility in 2024. He led the Golden Gophers to a 7-5 record in 12 starts while throwing for 2,617 yards, 17 touchdowns and five interceptions.
Russini added that evaluators have been "using words like calm, organized and efficient" when describing Brosmer, so he could avoid the same struggles that McCarthy has faced throughout his first season as the full-time starter for the Vikings.
If Brosmer can help Minnesota (4-7) end its three-game losing streak on Sunday against Seattle (8-3), perhaps he will be able to assert himself over McCarthy as the right person for the starting quarterback job going forward.
