Eastern Conference
The Eastern Conference All-Stars are stacked with scoring, with two of the three leading point-getters in the league on the team's starting roster.
Elena Delle Donne highlights the game as one of the most dynamic players the league has ever seen. And she's only in her third season.
Delle Donne is the league's leading scorer, averaging 24.5 points per game and can take any day over, scoring over 40 points twice this season.
From distance or under the basket, there is no stopping her, as Delle Donne packs a pure shooter that can drain even the deepest of three-pointers into a 6'5" frame that can also bully her way down low.
Though she makes her name as a scorer, Delle Donne also controls the glass. She currently ranks third in the league with 9.8 rebounds per game.
Complementing Delle Donne on Saturday night will be Angel McCoughtry of the Atlanta Dream, who is third in the league with 20.5 points per game. While she has not grabbed the headlines in the WNBA like Delle Donne, Brittney Griner, Skylar Diggins or Jacinta Moore, McCoughtry has been an extremely consistent scorer over the past six years. She has averaged 20 points or more in five of those seasons.
The Eastern Conference leaders, the New York Liberty, have just one representative on their roster, and she is starting.
Center Tina Charles has been the leader of the Liberty, exuding a dominant style of play near the basket with 17.2 points per game and 9.3 rebounds in 17 games this season.
The East is going to run a fairly big lineup on Saturday night, and it will certainly be busy as it tries to shut down the likes of Griner of the West. Expect to see that flashy, All-Star Game play moving the ball down low to Charles and McCoughtry while Delle Donne will remain unguardable, roaming the floor to those open areas.
Western Conference
The Western Conference comes into its exhibition game a bit hobbled, losing starters Diggins of the Tulsa Shock and Seimone Augustus of the Minnesota Lynx to injury. Reserve Plenette Pierson also will be unable to play on Saturday.
Riquna Williams, Kayla McBride and Jantel Lavender have been named replacements for the Western Conference, but it remains to be seen who will be starting in the spots of Diggins and Augustus.
They still have plenty of firepower, however, with a two-player wrecking crew that could win a game by themselves.
Minnesota's Maya Moore, the WNBA's defending Most Valuable Player, is second in the league with 20.7 points per game. She brings one of the smoothest shots in the league with the aggressive style of play that sees her capable of driving ferociously to the hoop.
The West will have a big target down low in Griner. One of the only players in the league who can dunk, and she's not afraid to show it, Griner is an immovable object under the basket.
She leads the league with 4.0 blocks per game—almost 1.5 blocks better than the next-leading candidate—while holding the second-best field-goal percentage.
It makes for one fascinating tilt, as the game's best plays might not belong to the shooters but to those brave enough to wander under the basket and attack some of the most imposing figures in the league. Whatever style is used on Saturday night, a pair of stacked teams ensures that the WNBA All-Star Game is going to be an entertaining one.
Prediction
With so many versatile stars who will undoubtedly be paired with one of the more surprising, feel-good stories (like Shonni Schimmel's All-Star Game-record 29 points last year), it's going to be close. Very close.
The Eastern Conference will prove to be too much for the West as the injuries of Diggins and Augustus will be felt.
That doesn't mean the West will have a down night. Look for Moore to score over 20 points and Griner to put up a double-double line that could look like 12 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks.
Delle Donne will score a game-high 27 points on her way to MVP honors as a balanced Eastern Conference attack will bring a 119-110 victory.
