Mel Kiper Jr. Reacts to Shedeur Sanders' 1st Browns Start, Won't Take 'Victory Lap'
ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. has been high on Shedeur Sanders since before the NFL draft, and now he might have been proved right in his assessment of the rookie quarterback.
Sanders had a tremendous first start for the Cleveland Browns, throwing for 209 yards and a touchdown on 11-of-20 passing. Kiper had high praise after Sanders' strong performance.
"When I think about the plays he made down the field, we talk about accuracy with him," Kiper said on First Draft (1:30 mark). "That was the thing, he's so accurate, he could be a surgeon. Just give him fortress in front of him, give him some time and he can be a surgeon... Everything I see with him, he looked like an NFL starting quarterback."

He also said he has no plans of taking a victory lap just yet.
"I don't do victory laps," Kiper said (2:35 mark). "I don't do victory laps after one game, because, who had the best debut ever in the history of rookie quarterbacks? Will Levis did. Four touchdown passes against the Atlanta Falcons. Things happen, the organization, whatever... I never go into anything overconfident... Never will you ever see me do a victory lap."
Sanders had a rough first outing for the Browns, throwing for just 47 yards and an interception on 4-of-16 passing after relieving a concussed Dillon Gabriel two weeks ago.
A week of getting first-team reps proved to be of great help for Sanders, and he bounced back well in Sunday's win over the Raiders.
But one good game isn't enough to prove whether Sanders is here to stay. He'll start once again this week against the San Francisco 49ers, and he'll look to continue showing he has what it takes to stick around in the NFL.
