Both teams have something to prove at the Milano Cortina Games.
The men's team has a gold-medal drought dating back to the legendary performance at the 1980 Olympics, though a strong core led by Jack Eichel, Auston Matthews, Brady and Matthew Tkachuk, Quinn Hughes and Charlie McAvoy is looking to end it.
"We've seen the unprecedented success of our U.S. teams on the international stage this past season and we need to keep our foot on the gas," 2026 U.S. Olympic men's ice hockey team general manager Bill Guerin said back in June. "We haven't won an Olympic gold in men's hockey since 1980 and we're out to change that."
The women's team won gold in both 1998 and 2018, four silvers in that time and one bronze. Its rivalry with Canada remains as strong as ever, with the past four gold-medal games decided between the two countries.
