What Is Alvin Kamara's Injury Status After Exiting? Who is Saints Backup RB?
The New Orleans Saints ruled out Alvin Kamara for the remainder of Sunday's matchup against the Atlanta Falcons with a knee injury.
Kamara left the game in the second quarter and didn't return. He was initially listed as questionable to return. Devin Neal led the backfield upon his departure.
Kamara, 30, has had a bit of a rough season for the Saints, at least by his lofty standards. Coming into Sunday he's rushed for just 460 yards and a touchdown in 10 games, adding 31 catches for 182 yards.
The five-time Pro Bowler was one of the most dynamic weapons out of the backfield in his prime, impacting the game as both a runner and receiver. The Saints don't have many weapons to threaten defenses in general, however, and have struggled to get much going in the run game (92.8 YPG, 28th in the NFL).
If he's forced to miss time, Neal is in line for a bigger workload. The 22-year-old rookie was a sixth-round pick in April and came into Sunday with all of 10 carries for 43 yards and seven catches for 21 yards.
Kendre Miller would traditionally be the next man up but suffered a season-ending ACL tear in October.
The Saints could also turn to Taysom Hill in the ground game, utilizing the hybrid player in unique packages. But the hope in New Orleans will be that Kamara's injury isn't overly serious.
