Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs Amaze Fans as Comeback Win vs. Colts Keeps Playoff Hopes Alive
Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs avoided disaster on Sunday with a come-from-behind win over the Indianapolis Colts.
Kansas City moved to 6-5 to keep pace with the Baltimore Ravens, Pittsburgh Steelers and Houston Texans on the outside of the AFC wild-card race.
Mahomes and Co. won 23-20 in overtime. They were down 20-9 at the start of the fourth quarter.
Mahomes led the Chiefs on two extended scoring drives in the fourth quarter. Kareem Hunt ran in a touchdown and then Harrison Butker kicked the game-tying field goal to send the game to overtime.
Mahomes did not throw a touchdown pass, but he totaled 352 yards and was the driving force of the game-tying and game-winning scoring drives. He was aided by a defense that shut down the Colts in the fourth quarter and overtime.
Kansas City is still on the outside looking in at the AFC wild-card race, but it should feel much better about its playoff hopes at 6-5 than at 5-6.
The Chiefs have a chance to move to 7-5 on Thanksgiving Day against the Dallas Cowboys. Then, they play the Houston Texans and Los Angeles Chargers in vital games for their playoff status.
