Giancarlo Fisichella...P.14

Ben VallelySep 12, 2009

Is that the boyhood dream of every Italian motor sport fan? My heart goes out to Giancarlo, but surely it shows how much of a pig the Ferrari is to drive this year compared to the little Force India.

Now this doesn’t make much sense surely? A multi-million Euro company such as Ferrari, plugging cent after cent into their Formula One cars, come along with a KERS assisted machine, which goes quite well in the hands of a rejuvenated Kimi Raikkonen, and the amazing Felipe Massa. Compare this then, to Force India, based at Silverstone, the old Jordan/Midland/Spyker team, with a comparatively TINY annual budget, creating a car that flies to the front row of the grid two events running.

I really feel that Giancarlo has made the right decision, allowing himself to potentially end his career in Maranello. My personal boyhood dream is also to drive the Scarlet cars, and to make a debut at Monza would be too good to be true. I just personally hope, if I ever manage to get to Formula One (I can but live in hope) that I don’t have to adapt so much to a car so radically different to my previous one.

I can already hear people slating Giancarlo’s career move. This is unfair. Having a KERS button on your steering wheel after lasting two thirds of a season without one is a HUGE adjustment surely? Let’s give the guy a break. Let him live out his dream.

He’ll come good… just not straight away. Give him a couple of races before we start picking the team change apart.

The Tifosi roar their approval regardless. For the next five races, and particularly this one at Monza, they all are Giancarlo Fisichella, he is living their dream, and they will back him completely unconditionally. I think, as a Motor Racing community, on the eve of a good driver’s long career, we should do the same. Let him have his day in the Scarlet. Let him live the dream, and let him bring away the fondest of memories of the time he raced a Ferrari in anger.

He deserves that much.
