Did Father-Son Duo Land $2.5M for Dodgers' Historic World Series Game 7 HR Balls?

John and Matthew Bains had a lofty goal when they decided to sell the Game 7 home run balls they caught during the 2025 World Series.

While they didn't meet that $2.5 million goal, they did take home a nice chunk of change.

CLLCT reported Saturday that the father and son duo combined to catch Miguel Rojas' tying home run in the ninth inning and Will Smith's winning home run in the 11th inning of the Los Angeles Dodgers' win over the Toronto Blue Jays.

They sold the balls for a combined $324,000 through SCP Auctions on Saturday with Smith's going for $168,000 and Rojas' going for $156,000.

It was a notable price, but John Bains previously said, "I'd take $1 million for the Rojas ball and $1.5 million for the Smith ball. They were both game-changing baseballs."

He also said he used SCP for the auction since it sold Freddie Freeman's walk-off grand slam ball from the 2024 Fall Classic for $1.56 million.

While it seemed like the father and son each threw the ball back on the field after the two home runs in Toronto, John Bains clarified that they were balls they brought into the park and not the actual World Series ones.

If nothing else, taking home more than $300,000 will give the Bains something positive to remember what was otherwise a disappointing World Series result for the Blue Jays.

Toronto took a 3-2 lead by winning Games 4 and 5 on the road and had the opportunity to close the series out with a single victory in either Game 6 or 7 at home. It seemed like it would win its first World Series title since 1993.

While the Dodgers forced a decisive contest with a 3-1 victory in Game 6, the Blue Jays had a 4-3 lead with one out in the top of the ninth inning in Game 7. With Toronto on the verge of celebration, Rojas launched a solo homer that ended up forcing extra innings.

And Smith then played the role of hero in the 11th in a moment most Blue Jays fans will want to forget.

At least the Bains can take solace knowing they profited off it.
