Charvarius Ward Details 'Traumatic Injury,' Severe Concussion Symptoms Ahead of Return
Indianapolis Colts cornerback Charvarius Ward will return to the field Sunday at the Kansas City Chiefs after suffering a concussion following a pregame collision with tight end Drew Ogletree during warmups on Oct. 12.
On Friday, Ward talked about his frightening post-injury experiences and concussion symptoms.

"I was getting dizzy for damn near a month," Ward said, per ESPN's Stephen Holder. "That wasn't normal. So, that was a real deal. A traumatic injury for me. A lot of emotions and everything like that. So, it was pretty tough. But I'm feeling good, though."
Ward even wondered whether he would play football anymore.
"I was kind of doubting if I was going to play football again," Ward said. "It was that scary... I was thinking about my life outside of football too."
The 29-year-old Ward is in his eighth NFL season. He played his first four seasons with the Chiefs before signing a three-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers. Ward then inked a three-year deal worth up to $60 million last offseason.
Ward started the Colts' first four games, totaling 13 tackles (nine solo) and three pass breakups. Opposing quarterbacks only averaged 5.6 yards per target against him, per Pro Football Reference.
On Oct. 12, Ward was getting ready for his team's matchup with the Cardinals. He was working with an assistant coach and backpedaling down the field when Ogletree, looking in a different direction while catching a pass, inadvertently knocked Ward down.
"It's crazy," Ward said when recalling the incident on Friday. "One moment I'm going for the ball. Next moment I'm knocked out, laying on my back and getting carted off the field in the wheelchair. So, it was crazy. Like I said, that's a big boy. [Ogletree] is a real big boy. I didn't see him coming. I feel like if I had my helmet on and it was like normal football, I would've been good. But it was just me not seeing him coming."
Ward has cleared concussion protocol, and he turned in three full practices this week.
Ward returns to a Colts team that's gone 8-2 this year and could very well contend for the Super Bowl. He's a huge boost to the Colts defense as Indianapolis looks to continue this incredible season.
Ward has a tough challenge off the bat against his old teammate, two-time NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes, but he could very well be up for it.
Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET in Kansas City.
