Dart has been sidelined since suffering a concussion during a Week 10 loss to the Chicago Bears on Nov. 9.
After sitting out the Giants' Week 11 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Nov. 16, Dart rejoined practice as a non-contact participant three days later.
He did not clear concussion protocol in time, however, to play Sunday in the Giants' Week 12 road game against the Detroit Lions.
The Giants have since turned to Jameis Winston, who started against the Packers and Bears as Week 1 starter Russell Wilson took on a backup role.
Dart was checked for concussions four times in the preseason and regular-season before being diagnosed with his latest injury.
Former Giants head coach Brian Daboll leaned on Dart as a dual threat since turning to him as starter in Week 4, which led to the rookie racking up 317 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns but opened him up to more hits from opposing defenses.
One of the team's biggest questions going forward will be how Kafka decides to manage Dart with those health concerns in mind.
ESPN's Dan Graziano recently reported he expects Kafka to get a "legitimate look" at the full-time role in New York. That could hinge at least in part on his ability to protect a player the Giants are hoping will serve as their quarterback of the future.
