1 Stat That Defines Every NFL Team's Season
With 11 weeks now complete, the 2025 NFL season is entering the home stretch.
Plenty of interesting numbers help explain how this unpredictable campaign has transpired so far.
Here's one in particular for each franchise.
AFC East
1 of 8.jpg)
Buffalo Bills: 50
The Bills have compiled 50 plays of 20-plus yards this season, the highest in the NFL. It's the only offense in the NFL with that many 20-yard gains. This was the league's fourth-highest-scoring offense entering Week 12, primarily because it's so explosive.
Miami Dolphins: 109.7
That's the passer rating opposing quarterbacks have put up against the Miami defense this season, which is the worst mark in the AFC. A lot of the team's struggles have to do with Tua Tagovailoa's 19 turnover-worthy plays, but it starts with a horrendous pass defense.
New England Patriots: 5.3
The number of air yards per pass attempt Drake Maye is averaging this season. No other AFC quarterback is averaging more than 4.7 air yards per pass. The signal-caller is dealing as a prime MVP candidate in his sophomore campaign.
New York Jets: 1
The Jets have recorded only one takeaway this season—a fumble recovery in Week 6 against the Broncos and zero interceptions.
AFC North

Baltimore Ravens: 1-5
This is the Ravens' record against teams that are .500 or better this year. They lost to the Bills and Lions with a healthy Lamar Jackson, they fell to the Chiefs with Jackson playing the majority of the game, and they were crushed by the Texans and Rams sans Jackson. How much stock can we really put into their last three wins against Miami, Minnesota and Cleveland?
Cincinnati Bengals: 48
The league-leading number of 20-plus-yard plays allowed by a Cincinnati defense that has surrendered a tied-for-league-high 6.3 yards per play this season. That has little to do with Joe Burrow's absence.
Cleveland Browns: 1
The total number of 40-yard plays recorded by a Browns offense that is averaging a league-low 4.0 yards per play and just 1.3 points per drive. It goes beyond one unit or player, but I'd start with the league's lowest-rated offensive line in terms of pass-blocking efficiency at Pro Football Focus.
Pittsburgh Steelers: 2.4
This is the total number of air yards per pass attempt from Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers—a rate that ranks tied for last among qualified passers alongside Dillon Gabriel. The veteran QB just doesn't move the needle often anymore.
AFC South

Houston Texans: 43.3%
Houston's red-zone touchdown rate this season ranks dead-last in the AFC. The Texans also rank 27th with a third-down conversation rate of 36.0 percent. They continue to lack execution in a major way.
Indianapolis Colts: 6.4
That's the total number of yards per play the Colts are averaging this season. Nobody else is above 6.2. They also lead the league by a wide margin with an average of 3.1 points per drive, but keep in mind they've played the second-easiest schedule in terms of ESPN's Power Index.
Jacksonville Jaguars: 9.7
The percentage of passes dropped by Trevor Lawrence's receivers this season is the highest rate in the league by a considerable margin (Bo Nix is next at 7.0). It could partly explain why the 2021 No. 1 overall pick has an awful 56.2 passer rating on deep balls and an even worse 51.9 rating in the fourth quarter of one-score games.
Tennessee Titans: 41
Through 10 games, the Titans have allowed a league-leading 41 sacks. Rookie quarterback Cam Ward has struggled, facing constant pressure throughout a tough debut season.
AFC West

Denver Broncos: 8
Eight of Denver's nine wins have come against teams that are .500 or worse. They've played three teams that have winning records (the Colts, Chargers and Eagles) and they're 1-2 in those affairs. They're also lucky to be 7-2 in one-score games while leading the NFL with five fourth-quarter comebacks. Is this sustainable for the league's most-penalized team?
Kansas City Chiefs: 0-5
The Chiefs' record in one-score games comes on the tail of a 17-game winning streak under said circumstances. They're having the opposite campaign as Denver, as they have zero fourth-quarter comebacks and have played seven teams that are .500 or better (going 2-5 in those affairs).
Las Vegas Raiders: 55.2
That's Geno Smith's passer rating on attempts that have traveled 15-plus yards downfield. Among 22 quarterbacks with at least 40 such passes in those situations, that rating ranks dead-last. Five of his tied-for-league-worst 13 interceptions have come on deep balls. The experiment has failed.
Los Angeles Chargers: 121
This is the total number of times quarterback Justin Herbert has been pressured in 2025. No other signal-caller has been under duress more than 95 times. That offensive line is killing the Chargers' season.
NFC East

Dallas Cowboys: 0
The number of Cowboys wins this season against teams that are .500 or better in five attempts. They tied the Packers but lost to the Eagles, Bears, Panthers and Broncos. It doesn't bode well for an upcoming run against Philadelphia, Kansas City and Detroit for a team that has allowed an NFC-worst 2.7 points per drive.
New York Giants: 1-4
The Giants' record in one-score games is 1-4 this season—a sample that includes heartbreaking losses to the Cowboys and Broncos. Flip a few of those, and you're respectable instead of 2-9, but this team is still deeply flawed with the league's worst run defense (in terms of yards allowed per attempt) and red-zone defense.
Philadelphia Eagles: 4
This is the total number of turnovers committed by the Philadelphia offense this season. It's been shakier than usual for much of the year, but the Eagles are 8-2 (with seven of those wins coming by just one score) partly because they've been so careful on offense. Jalen Hurts has thrown just one interception against the league's second-toughest schedule to date.
Washington Commanders: 8.9
That's how many yards per pass attempt the Commanders are allowing on defense—an average that sits a full yard higher than anyone else in the NFL. They've surrendered a league-high 10 40-plus-yard pass plays. You can't put this lost season entirely on Jayden Daniels' elbow injury.
NFC North

Chicago Bears: Plus-16
The Bears' league-best turnover margin is plus-16 this season, and it's actually plus-18 since the team started 0-2. That combined with a tied-for-league-high five fourth-quarter comebacks explains why 7-3 Chicago is in the process of shocking the NFC North.
Detroit Lions: 0
This is the total number of fourth-quarter comebacks from a Lions team that fell short in big moments against both Minnesota and Philadelphia in November. Jared Goff has a mere 66.7 rating in the fourth quarter of one-score games.
Green Bay Packers: 49.2%
The Packers' third-down conversion rate on offense is 49.2 percent this season. Nobody else in football is north of 46 percent. Combined with a league-low 23 20-plus-yard gains allowed on defense, that has Green Bay battling despite some dud performances this fall.
Minnesota Vikings: 25.4
Quarterback J.J. McCarthy has a poor passer rating on third down this season. No other qualified passer has a sub-50 rating under those circumstances. Pair that with the worst bad-throw rate in football, and the 2024 first-round pick is steering himself toward "bust" territory.
NFC South

Atlanta Falcons: 24.0%
Michael Penix's bad-throw rate ranks second-last in football—just a smidge ahead of McCarthy's 24.8 percent. It helps explain why the Falcons are 1-6 against teams that are .500 or better. The jury's still out on Penix, who is now done for the remainder of the season with a partial ACL tear.
Carolina Panthers: Minus-42
Carolina's scoring margin this season makes it hard to believe the team is right in the thick of it with a 6-5 record. Minnesota (4-6) and Arizona (3-7) both have better scoring margins (minus-14 and minus-32, respectively). A soft schedule and a 5-1 record in one-score games has helped, but a tough home stretch could reveal the real Panthers.
New Orleans Saints: 21
That's the total number of 20-plus-yard plays from the Saints this season—easily the lowest total in football for an offense that was famously explosive for years but has now lost its bite. The offense did hit some home runs in a pre-Week 11 bye victory over Carolina, offering at least a hint of a turnaround.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 3
This is the number of consecutive midseason defeats the Buccaneers have suffered at the hands of teams with winning records. In those losses to the Lions, Patriots and Bills, Tampa Bay has been outscored 96-64 despite a plus-two turnover differential. The shine is coming off.
NFC West
8 of 8.jpg)
Arizona Cardinals: 2.6
The number of completed air yards per attempt for Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray ranks ahead of only Aaron Rodgers and Dillon Gabriel. Murray also has a mere 54.5 passer rating on third down. He hasn't been fully healthy, but it's just not happening despite the presence of Marvin Harrison Jr.
Los Angeles Rams: 1
This is the total amount of 40-plus-yard plays the Rams defense has surrendered this season, but we could have gone many ways with this. That same D has recorded 18 takeaways (second to only the Bears), the team in general has taken a league-low 47 penalties, and Matthew Stafford has a ridiculous 27-to-2 touchdown-to-interception ratio. It all comes together to explain why this team is a Super Bowl contender.
San Francisco 49ers: 12
The total number of sacks registered this season by the 49ers defense places them dead-last in the NFL in that category. They are missing star edge Nick Bosa, have just three sacks in their last four games and have surrendered 28.5 points per game during that stretch. It's a problem.
Seattle Seahawks: 9.3
Sam Darnold's yards-per-attempt average is more than a yard clear of second-place Jared Goff in the NFC. He's also dominating with 5.8 air yards per throw, while having taken just 10 sacks all season. This offense is humming. Darnold just needs to limit the turnovers (he's tied for the league lead with 14) now.
