Will Yankees Sign Devin Williams? Latest Rumors on Contract Talks amid MLB Free Agency
It appears that the New York Yankees aren't ready to give up on relief pitcher Devin Williams just yet.
According to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon, league sources said the Yankees and the free-agent reliever "recently discussed the potential for a possible reunion."
The Yankees acquired Williams from the Milwaukee Brewers last offseason, and the 2025 campaign was the final year of his contract. Unfortunately, the right-hander struggled to live up to expectations in his first year in New York.

After establishing himself as one of the best closers in MLB during his tenure with the Brewers, Williams lost the closing job twice during the 2025 season with the Yankees.
He finished the year with a 4-6 record, 18 saves, a career-worst 4.79 ERA and 90 strikeouts in 62.0 innings pitched. He made four appearances in the postseason and didn't surrender an earned run.
Despite his up-and-down year, Williams is still a popular name on the free-agent market. Rosenthal and Sammon noted that he's "garnering widespread interest" from around the majors, so it's "unclear how likely a reunion is" between him and New York.
Still, it sounds like the Yankees are doing their part to try to keep Williams in the fold, so it will be up to him to decide if he wants to continue wearing Pinstripes as he tries to bounce back in 2026.
