Who Will be Giants HC? Latest Rumors on Candidates, Search for 'Highly Coveted' Job

Joseph ZuckerNov 20, 2025

The New York Giants coaching vacancy is considered "highly coveted," giving the team a potentially wide pool of candidates, according to ESPN's Jordan Raanan.

Raanan reported an ability to "command the room" could be among the traits the Giants want from their next coach.

"Someone who can oversee the operation and develop a sustainable culture," he wrote. "Previous head coaching experience (whether at the collegiate or professional level) is preferred. It might be necessary in part because of the difficulty of the New York market and the setup of the Giants organization."

Raanan listed off Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo and former Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce as likely interviewees.

Raanan proceeded to list off ascendant NFL coordinators (Los Angeles Chargers' Jesse Minter, Los Angeles Rams' Chris Shula and Green Bay Packers' Jeff Hafley), former NFL coaches (Mike McCarthy, Jon Gruden, Matt Nagy and Vance Joseph) and a pair of college coaches (Notre Dame's Marcus Freeman and Iowa State's Matt Campbell) who could all be in the conversation as well.

The Giants have made the playoffs just twice since winning their most recent Super Bowl in 2011, and they've had a revolving door on the sideline after moving on Tom Coughlin during the 2016 offseason. New York has had four permanent head coaches since Coughlin, and Brian Daboll is the only one from the group who lasted more than two seasons.

Still, the allure of leading a marquee team in a big market is bound to attract some big names within the coaching ranks.

And for as much as general manager Joe Schoen is on the hot seat, the Giants roster could be positioned well for the future.

Jaxson Dart has exceeded expectations so far as a rookie, throwing for 1,417 yards and 10 touchdowns in seven starts.

A front seven that includes Dexter Lawrence II, Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux is a solid foundation for any defense.

In addition, New York has a lot of expiring salaries in 2027, which gives the coaching staff and front office to turn over the squad in a big way.

The Giants' inconsistency from year to year is indicative of some structural problems, but they have some factors working in their favor that will aid them in their coaching search.
