Colton Hood NFL Draft 2026 Scouting Report for New York Giants CB
The New York Giants selected Tennessee CB Colton Hood with the No. 37 overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft.
Hood plays with the confidence and man coverage tenacity that's seen him shut down some of the best receivers in college football.
Practicing against future NFLers every day in practice while at Colorado prepared the 5'11", 193-pound corner to enter 2025 as Tennessee's top corner with teammate Jermod McCoy rehabbing an injury. He makes plays on the football and comes downhill with explosiveness that limits yards after catch and lets him attack the catch point.
The former 3-star recruit and transfer from Colorado set career highs across the board with 50 tackles (34 solo), four and a half tackles for loss, one interception, eight passes defensed, and a forced and recovered fumble.

Where He Wins
2 of 5
— Hood showcases high-level understanding and a variety of man coverage techniques, making it difficult to separate from him. His patience and lateral explosion/agility let him thrive and recover against styles of play.
— As a zone corner, Hood is most comfortable in Cover 2, where he can play closer to the line of scrimmage, carry receivers to different zones, and trigger quickly on underneath throws.
— His closing and recovery speed is an asset to drive on throws downhill and deter quarterbacks from challenging him downfield. When trailing receivers, he focuses on playing the catch point and timing strikes to disrupt targets.
— Physical playstyle helps throw off timing and keeps him in the receiver's hip pockets during route breaks. He does a nice job of sinking his hips and decelerating to match breakpoint comebacks.
Areas of Improvement
3 of 5
— In off coverage or when asked to cover a zone downfield, Hood will open his hips to run downfield early, allowing easy access to inside route breaks.
— As a hard press corner, he uses a physical two-hand jam technique. Learning to use one hand and not locking his hips will let him close the space even more quickly. His physicality in routes can also lead to penalties.
— As a tackler, Hood needs to be more consistent in his technique. He leads with his shoulder and lunges at the legs even if he's in a good position. Wrapping as a tackler will clean up some missed tackles.
