WWE's Reported Reaction to Skattebo Raw Angle

Monday Night RAW

New York Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo got physically involved during Monday night's episode of Raw, and it generated no shortage of buzz.

Dominik Mysterio taunted comedian Andrew Schulz, who was seated in the front row next to Skattebo, which led to Skattebo catching a stray when Dirty Dom insulted his intelligence.

That led to a shoving match that saw Skattebo send Mysterio's Judgment Day stablemate, JD McDonagh, flying onto his back.

According to TC of WrestleVotes, Skattebo's appearance on Raw was the main topic discussed on sports talk radio in New York City on Tuesday, and a WWE source said they were "pleased" with the way the angle played out.

While it is always significant when a big star from the sports world does something with WWE, Skattebo's involvement was an even bigger deal due to his current status.

Skattebo is out for the remainder of the 2025 NFL season due to a dislocated ankle and fractured tibia suffered during a game against the Philadelphia Eagles last month.

He was getting around with the aid of a scooter at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Monday night, which suggests he faces a long road to recovery.

There can be inherent risks involved with getting physical in a pro wrestling setting, which could partially be why his segment caused so much discussion. But since essentially all Skattebo did was push someone, the likelihood of a setback or a new injury was quite low.

Skattebo is already one of the most engaging and unique personalities in the NFL despite being in the early stages of his career, making him the perfect fit for a WWE crossover.

Ziggler Reportedly Not Under WWE Contract

Despite his surprise appearance in the Last Time Is Now tournament on Monday night's episode of Raw, Dolph Ziggler reportedly isn't locked in with WWE.

According to Fightful Select (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News), Ziggler's appearance was similar to Zack Ryder's on last week's episode of SmackDown in that it was a one-off situation that did not see Ziggler sign a contract with WWE.

However, like Ryder, Ziggler had a shirt released on WWE Shop following his appearance, which suggests he signed some type of merchandising agreement with the company. The terms of that deal have not been reported.

Ziggler, who currently wrestles for TNA under the name Nic Nemeth, provided some additional insight into his WWE return and how it came together.

During an appearance Tuesday on Busted Open (h/t Felix Upton of Ringside News), Ziggler said he learned about two or three weeks beforehand that he would be in the tournament.

Ziggler added that the only person he told ahead of time was his brother, Ryan Nemeth, as it went to great lengths to keep it a surprise.

From 2004 to 2023, Ziggler was under contract with WWE. He put together a résumé worthy of Hall of Fame consideration during that time, becoming a two-time world heavyweight champion, six-time intercontinental champion, two-time United States champion, four-time tag team champion, one-time NXT champion and one-time Money in the Bank winner.

After getting released by WWE in 2023, Ziggler signed with TNA last year, and he has quickly made an impact there as well, becoming a one-time TNA world champion and one-time TNA world tag team champion.

Ziggler lost his first-round match in the Last Time Is Now tournament to Solo Sikoa, so while he won't be John Cena's final opponent, he proved that he is still a beloved figure in pro wrestling based on the massive reaction he received from the MSG crowd.

Gable Reportedly Progressing Toward In-Ring Return

Chad Gable has been out of action since June due a shoulder injury, but a positive update regarding his recovery emerged this week.

According to PWInsider.com (h/t Carrier), Gable is expected to be present at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, this week in order to work toward his in-ring return.

Gable confirmed in an Instagram post in July that he underwent surgery, and his absence is now nearing the five-month mark.

Prior to going on the shelf, Gable was essentially pulling double duty as both himself and the El Grande Americano character. Ludwig Kaiser has stepped into the Americano role during his absence.

The last major match Gable competed in before the injury was a AAA Mega Championship bout against El Hijo del Vikingo at Worlds Collide in what was arguably among WWE's best matches of the year.

Gable was written off television via an attack by Penta, who took him out with his signature armbreaker.

Because of that angle, it stands to reason that Penta will be firmly in Gable's crosshairs when the time comes for him to return.
