Daily Fantasy Baseball 2015: Top DraftKings Bargains, Strategy for July 24

Rob GoldbergJul 24, 2015

Daily fantasy baseball players have a lot of choices for top players Friday with aces and big hitters all over the board. The problem is if you spend big in some places, you have to compensate with cheaper options elsewhere.

If you need to find some cheaper options either on the mound or at the plate, here are some to consider.

Jonathon Niese, SP, New York Mets ($7,300)

It might be difficult competing with Zack Greinke for a win, but Jonathon Niese still can put up his own great numbers. The left-handed pitcher was seemingly on his way out of the Mets rotation a couple of months ago, but he has now put together eight quality starts in a row.

In three July starts, Niese has been even better with a 2-0 record and a 1.21 ERA. He went 7.2 scoreless innings against the St. Louis Cardinals his last time out, which means he has the ability to do the same against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Patrick Corbin, SP, Arizona Diamondbacks ($5,900)

The biggest concern with Patrick Corbin is his inability to go deep into games. In three starts since returning from the disabled list, he is averaging just 76.3 pitches per game and likely won't go much higher for the rest of the year, via Cameron Cox of KPNX:

However, Corbin has fared well in his limited time this year, and his control (13 strikeouts to just two walks in 15 innings) will help him build up innings. Against the inconsistent Milwaukee Brewers, he has a chance to provide some good value.

Rougned Odor, 2B, Texas Rangers ($4,000)

The entire Rangers lineup has come alive lately, but Rougned Odor has truly stood out with his play since returning from the minors. Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News broke down the second baseman's play:

Against Los Angeles Angels starter Nick Tropeano, who isย making his sixth career start (and first since April), Odor has a chance to keep putting up great numbers.

Preston Tucker, OF, Houston Astros ($3,500)

Despite being in the midst of an up-and-down season, Preston Tucker has been red-hot as of late with some serious power on display. He will try to keep it going against veteran starter Jeremy Guthrie, who has only managed a 5.36 ERA for the Kansas City Royals this season.

Although Tucker is far from a sure thing, his ability to hit home runs could give fantasy owners some big points on Friday.

Brayan Pena, C, Cincinnati Reds ($2,800)

Picking hitters playing at Coors Field is usually a good choice, especially with Colorado Rockies starter Eddie Butler allowing six runs and 11 hits in his most recent start. The problem is this isn't much of a secret, and the top Cincinnati Reds hitters like Joey Votto and Todd Frazier might be too expensive to draft.

However, you can get a lot of value for Brayan Pena. The switch-hitting catcher doesn't have much power but is hitting .302 against right-handed pitchers this season. With this matchup and this location, Pena is a good bet for some points.
