Ranger Suarez Reportedly Seen as Top Free Agent Pitcher by 'Multiple' MLB Teams
After eight years with the Philadelphia Phillies, starting pitcher Ranger Suárez could be open to a change in scenery this offseason as he tests free agency, and teams around MLB are ready to pursue him.
ESPN's Jeff Passan reported that "multiple" teams have Suárez "atop their list of the best pitchers available this winter."
Suárez started 26 games for the Phillies in 2025 and went 12-8 with a 3.20 ERA and 151 strikeouts in 157.1 innings of work. While his numbers don't necessarily jump off the page, Passan explained what makes him such an attractive target.

"Suárez is an anomalous sort of free agent: the soft tosser who's still going to get paid anyway," Passan stated. "Because he has never thrown 160 innings in a season, he is unlikely to reach the financial level of the big three starters. At the same time, the 30-year-old Suárez's consistency as a tough-to-square-up, low-walk, low-homer left-hander capable of going deep into games earns him enough fans to have a very good number of options."
The Phillies have gotten used to having Suárez at the front end of their starting rotation, so his potential departure could raise some concerns in Philadelphia, especially after Zack Wheeler's season ended early because of venous thoracic outlet syndrome.
However, it sounds like it won't be easy to keep him in the fold with other teams trying to snatch him away.
