Pedro Alvarez had a pair of RBI including his own 13th home run this year in the second inning.ย
The Pirates (55-40) are doing all they can to erase the memory of a three-game sweep at the hands of the Nationals (51-43) just last month.ย
With the win, Pittsburgh remains six games behind the Cardinals in the NL Central but lead the NL Wild-Card race by 3.5 games.ย

As for the Nationals, there's rumblings that Washington is pursuing a trade for the Reds' lights-out closer Aroldis Chapman.ย
"Aroldis Chapman makes all the sense in the world for Washington. Starting pitching not a priority, Bruce not a fit. Nats could use pen help.
