Latest 2025 MLB Free Agents Rumors, Predictions on Kyle Tucker, Pete Alonso, More

Joe TanseyNov 17, 2025

The Kyle Tucker sweepstakes will dominate MLB's free-agency period until the star outfielder signs somewhere.

The assumption is that the free-spending Los Angeles Dodgers will be in the mix for the former Astro and Cub, but that might not be the case.

If the Dodgers don't seriously pursue Tucker, a host of teams will have better chances to land his signature.

Tucker isn't the only power hitter on the market this offseason. Pete Alonso will be a nice consolation prize for teams that miss out on Tucker, or a No. 1 option for franchises that opt out of the Tucker sweepstakes because of money.

The Dodgers are linked to every big-name free agent.

There's no guarantee that this offseason's top available player signs with the Dodgers, or even generates interest from the World Series champion.

ESPN's Jeff Passan reported the Dodgers "are not inclined to go 10-plus years" on Tucker.

The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya mentioned Los Angeles could "seeking a stopgap option or turning to even some internal choices, according to multiple people familiar with the team's thinking."

If the Dodgers aren't in on Tucker, the Toronto Blue Jays might be viewed as the favorite to land him. Toronto might have to replace Bo Bichette's bat in the lineup and it could use another left-handed power bat.

The New York Yankees are always in the market for top players, and if Cody Bellinger leaves in free agency, they could use another left-handed bat.

The San Francisco Giants might be a wild-card in the Tucker sweepstakes. They made a big swing with the Rafael Devers trade last season and could use another power bat in the heart of their order.

The fit in Toronto is too perfect, if the Dodgers are out, and it signing Tucker would be a statement of intent that the Blue Jays will contend for multiple years in the future.

Prediction: Tucker lands with Toronto

Pete Alonso

Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported the Baltimore Orioles could be in the mix for Pete Alonso.

A return to the New York Mets is always in the cards for the power-hitting first baseman, but if he wants a change of scenery, there are plenty of options available.

Baltimore could use a fresh bat in the middle of an order that largely features homegrown prospects.

The Orioles are coming off a disastrous season. A potential deal for Alonso would mark a new era of baseball in Baltimore.

The Texas Rangers are an intriguing fit for Alonso. They aren't afraid to go after big names in free agency and need an upgrade over Jake Burger at first base.

Even if Alonso signs to be the designated hitter, he'd be an instant upgrade over what Joc Pederson and others provided in 2025.

A heart of the order featuring Corey Seager, Marcus Semien and Alonso would help Texas compete with the Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners in the AL West.

Prediction: Alonso signs with Texas

Cody Bellinger

Teams that can't afford Tucker and still need left-handed power should be all over Cody Bellinger.

Heyman reported the New York Mets "will be looking at" Bellinger as they look to bolster their offense to compete for the National League pennant.

Bellinger would be a solid power replacement for Alonso if the Mets' current first baseman departs in free agency.

A return to the Yankees shouldn't be counted out either, especially if New York's American League franchise doesn't get involved with Tucker.

A stay in New York seems likely given the potential needs the Yankees and Mets have.

The Yankees might be more inclined, though, to give their young homegrown talent a chance, and if that is the case, the Mets are the better suitor, even if Alonso returns.

The Mets could place Bellinger in the outfield and have four power bats between Bellinger, Alonso, Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor in their best-case scenario.

Prediction: Bellinger lands with Mets
