Did Ja'Marr Chase Really Spit on Jalen Ramsey? Here's What the Photos, Video Show

Timothy RappNov 16, 2025

Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Jalen Ramsey told reporters that Ja'Marr Chase spit on him before he was ejected for throwing a punch at the Cincinnati Bengals wideout. Chase denied doing so.

But video released after the game appears to confirm Ramsey's side of the story:

"Two competitors, but one guy took it too far," Steelers defensive lineman Cam Heyward told reporters after the game. "Our guy got penalized, but if you're gonna spit on a guy, you don't belong in the game and hopefully the NFL handles it because we all tried to calm Jalen down. But if a man spits on you, that's a different reaction you that you shouldn't ever have to deal with."

The NFL said it will review the incident, with referee Bill Vinovich adding in the postgame pool report that the crew didn't see Chase spit:

The Steelers ultimately won the game, 34-12.

One play before Ramsey's ejection in the fourth quarter, he and Chase were each given unsportsmanlike penalties for a scrap. That foreshadowed the confrontation to come.

A bit of bad blood between the Steelers and Bengals is nothing new, but Ramsey and the Steelers believe Chase took it too far. It remains to be seen if the NFL sees the situation similarly. If they do, a one-game suspension for Chase is possible, given past precedent this season.
