How Twitter Reacted to Christian Benteke's Official Unveiling with Liverpool
One week after Liverpool reportedly triggered his transfer clause, Christian Benteke finally made his move from Aston Villa to Liverpool on Wednesday evening. As proof, the big Belgian did the whole pointing to the crest, pretending to sign a contract and thumbs up on the medical table routine:
In the hours after the deal was confirmed, Twitter's finest LOL merchants waded in:
"When you sign Benteke... https://t.co/gm2g6GXFnb

Naturally, one of the most popular talking points around the Benteke deal was the price, which many deemed to be comparatively high:
"Liverpool paying round about the same for Christian Benteke as Chelsea did for Diego Costa last year. pic.twitter.com/GxNzsxGvGd

Former Red Dietmar Hamann, however, seemed to be a lone voice in describing the fee as "reasonable":
As the long-mooted deal sunk in, the feeling among Liverpool fans was mixed. Many were unhappy:
"@LivEchoLFC because we have over paid (even in this market) and it's not clear if he fits our style of play

Despite earning a very large chunk of change, many of Aston Villa's fans also seemed downbeat about the departure of their No. 1 source of goals:
Were the Villans bitter, though? Well, maybe a little bit:
Of course, there was plenty of positive reaction, spurred on by Benteke's encouraging stats:
"Total PL goals in the last 3 seasons: Aguero - 55 Suarez - 54 Van Persie - 48 Benteke - 42 #LFC pic.twitter.com/MPat254mgN

One notorious fan was so happy that he embraced his inner Pharrell. (Well, he tried to embrace his inner Pharrell):
Overall, the wave of negativity among Liverpool fans that was reaching a crest a week ago appears to have been gradually washed away by positive thoughts now that the deal is rubber-stamped:
"all the benteke haters need to get behind the lad now.great signing
— paul69rogers (@paul69rogers) July 19, 2015"
"I'm actually excited about Benteke now. He could really prove to be a great signing.
— Sean (@LFCseanWilliams) July 22, 2015"
"Benteke's a very good signing for Liverpool. Impressed in a poor team with a lack of service. Expecting to see big things from him.
— Ryan (@Rocketic) July 22, 2015"
Now, it's time for Liverpool fans to back their new signing and to start doing their vocal warm-ups—it's a big falsetto they're going to have to hit on the Kop next season...
