Juan Soto Advocates for Mets to Re-Sign Pete Alonso, Marte amid Contract Rumors

Scott PolacekNov 13, 2025

Juan Soto hopes the New York Mets bring back some of the other notable bats in the lineup.

The slugger advocated for the team to re-sign both Pete Alonso and Starling Marte on Thursday, per Laura Albanese of Newsday.

"I hope we can have more times to come and more fun together," he said of Alonso. As for Marte, he said, "You need a guy that helps you the most through those tough times and tries to bring the team back to where it's supposed to be."

Alonso is one of the most notable free agents in the league this offseason after he opted out of contract following the 2025 campaign. While he could still sign a new deal and stay put, it was an indication he is at least going to explore his options for a potential massive payday.

The 30-year-old has a National League Rookie of the Year, five All-Star selections and a Silver Slugger on his resume. His durability stands out considering he played all 162 games in each of the last two seasons, and he finished the 2025 campaign with a .272/.347/.524 slash line, 38 home runs and 126 RBI.

Marte will not be as highly coveted as Alonso at 37 years old, but he is a two-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glover who could provide veteran leadership for whichever team signs him.

He would likely be more of a platoon player or at least part-time option after he appeared in 98 games with nine home runs last season, but Soto's comments indicate Marte's overall value inside the clubhouse.

New York missed the playoffs last season so it may want to go in a different direction, but the star player wants to run things back with his teammates.
