When Will C.J. Stroud Return to Texans? NFL Insider Provides Latest Injury Update
Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud's availability is "uncertain" for next Thursday's Week 12 matchup with the Buffalo Bills, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
It is not clear if Stroud will clear concussion protocol in time for the Thursday night matchup, Schefter reported Saturday.
Stroud was previously ruled out of Houston's Week 11 Sunday matchup with the Tennessee Titans due to a concussion, marking his second consecutive game missed.
The third-year passer suffered the injury after getting hit while scrambling outside the pocket during the Texans' 18-15 loss to the Denver Broncos on Nov. 2. He appeared in each of the team's first eight regular-season contests before his early exit against Denver.
Stroud was previously in concussion protocol during his rookie season in 2023, as he was sidelined for two games before returning.
The 24-year-old blew past expectations during his first season in the NFL, completing 63.9 percent of his throws for 4,108 yards and 23 touchdowns compared to just five interceptions.
Stroud earned Offensive Rookie of the Year honors, helping the Texans reach the divisional round of the playoffs.
He took a step back during his sophomore year in 2024, throwing for 3,727 yards and 20 touchdowns while getting picked off 12 times. Stroud also posted a 63.2 completion percentage, although Houston was still able to advance to the divisional round once again.
This season, the Texans sit at 4-5 through 10 weeks.
Stroud has been more efficient in the pocket to begin his 2025 campaign, completing 66.5 percent of his passes for 1,702 yards and 11 touchdowns. He's also tossed just five interceptions.
If Stroud remains out, Davis Mills will continue to replace him under center.
