Ranking Every WWE Survivor Series WarGames Main Event In History
Survivor Series has been one of WWE's yearly staple events since it made its debut in 1987, but the PLE has changed a lot over the years.
The main gimmick of this show used to be the elimination matches. Teams of four or five competitors would fight in contests where every Superstar had to be pinned or submitted for a team to lose.
Since 2022, Survivor Series has been the home of the WarGames stipulation. Two rings are contained within a single cage, and two teams fight for supremacy.
WarGames began as a WCW/NWA stipulation in 1987. WWE originally used it as a special attraction in NXT from 2017-2021 before bringing it to the main roster.
For the last three years, the PLE has had two WarGames matches, one for the men and one for the women. We decided to take a look back through those six matches ahead of this year's show on November 29.
6. Women's WarGames 2024
1 of 6Result: Bianca Belair, Rhea Ripley, Naomi, Iyo Sky and Bayley defeated Nia Jax, Tiffany Stratton, Candice LeRae, Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez
With the six WarGames matches to take place on the main roster, the hardest part about ranking them was deciding which match came in last place because none of them are bad by any means.
The 10 women who competed inside the cage last year all put in a lot of hard work to make it a fun encounter. And when it comes to star power, this bout had enough to spare.
Belair, Ripley, Naomi, Sky, Bayley, Jax, Stratton and Morgan have all held world titles, and LeRae and Rodriguez have held tag team gold in addition to their NXT accomplishments. It was a stacked lineup, to say the least.
The only part of this that didn't match up to others on this list was the story behind it. There were various feuds being addressed, but it felt like they were all jumbled together instead of having one overarching story.
5. Men's WarGames 2023
2 of 6Result: Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins, Jey Uso, Sami Zayn and Randy Orton defeated Drew McIntyre, Damian Priest, Finn Balor, Dominik Mysterio and JD McDonagh
Back in 2023, The Judgment Day was ruling over Raw with an iron fist. Priest was a dominant singles star, Ripley was the most popular woman on the roster, and the rest of the group helped ensure its success.
A group of babyfaces teamed up to take on the combined might of McIntyre and The Judgment Day in the main event of Survivor Series 2023.
While the match was great in a vacuum, it didn't do quite enough to stand out on its own as memorable. Even though everyone in the face side were allies at the time, it still felt like a bit of a random assortment of guys.
4. Women's WarGames 2022
3 of 6Result: Alexa Bliss, Asuka, Becky Lynch, Bianca Belair and Mia Yim defeated Bayley, Dakota Kai, Iyo Sky, Nikki Cross and Rhea Ripley
The first year we saw the WarGames stipulation brought to the main roster featured a stacked lineup in the women's match.
All but two of the competitors in the contest were former world champions, and you could tell from the moment this bout started that they all still felt like they had something to prove.
Sky was one of the biggest highlights of this match with her high-flying antics, but every competitor had moments that stood out.
This is one of those bouts that will fly under the radar for a lot of people, so it's worth going back to revisit to not only see how much fun it was, but also to see how much some of these stars have grown since then.
3. Women's WarGames 2023
4 of 6Result: Becky Lynch, Bianca Belair, Charlotte Flair and Shotzi defeated Asuka, Kairi Sane, Iyo Sky and Bayley
For some reason in 2023, WWE opted to go with four-woman teams instead of the usual five members, but it may have been the best thing for it.
The 2023 women's WarGames match felt like the most cohesive of the three we have seen from the division. Not only did it have clear rivalries in place, but one team was an entire stable instead of being a group of random people tossed together.
Sky has become the queen of these matches after having appeared in a total of six between NXT and the main roster. In fact, she has appeared in more WarGames matches than any man or woman in WWE today, and she will add one more to her record when she competes in this year's match.
The lineup in 2023 was a list of future Hall of Fame inductees and definitely a match worth revisiting.
2. Men's WarGames 2024
5 of 6Result: CM Punk, Roman Reigns, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso and Sami Zayn defeated Solo Sikoa, Bronson Reed, Jacob Fatu, Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa
Trying to choose between the top two spots on this list was difficult because all of the WarGames matches we have seen on the main roster have been good, but the two that top the list were the most entertaining.
In 2023, CM Punk formed an uneasy alliance with the OG Bloodline to help the group take on the new Bloodline that had emerged with Sikoa at the helm.
This match had plenty of big moments like they always do, but the story behind the action is what made this one stand out. The OG vs. New Bloodline was the biggest thing in WWE at the time, so it needed an equally big stipulation like this.
The lineup for this match was interesting because it almost represented the past, present and future of WWE thanks to a healthy mix of veterans and young stars.
1. Men's WarGames 2022
6 of 6Result: Roman Reigns, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Sami Zayn and Solo Sikoa defeated Drew McIntyre, Kevin Owens, Sheamus, Pete Dunne and Ridge Holland
When looking at all six of the main roster WarGames bouts on paper, this one might not seem like it would stand out from the rest, but that is where you would be wrong.
This was peak Bloodline greatness. Reigns was still the most dominant individual in WWE at the time, and his group was at full strength with Paul Heyman serving as their wiseman.
The group of opponents facing Reigns' squad had all grown tired of seeing him cheat to win so he could maintain his monumental title reign, but the two with the biggest gripes were McIntyre and Owens.
The Scottish Warrior and The Prizefighter brought everything they had to this match along with The Brawling Brutes, but it wasn't enough to overcome The Bloodline at full strength.
All six WarGames matches were enjoyable in different ways. Which one stands out to you as your favorite of the bunch?
