NFL Draft 2026 Scouting Report for Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed

Damian ParsonDec 4, 2025

Marcel Reed has emerged as a dynamic quarterback with dual-threat playmaking ability.

Reed is a threat to improvise and create second-reaction throwing opportunities with his legs. All while possessing the effortless acceleration to blow by defenders and elusiveness to break their ankles.

He is a former 4-star recruit in the 2023 recruiting class. Last season, Reed battled and eventually won the starting gig from current Houston quarterback Conner Weigman. He is the ultimate competitor, leaving it all on the field with outstanding leadership.

Dame Parson is the lead host of the Locked On NFL Draft podcast. He also serves as co-host of the Scouting Room NFL Podcast alongside Daniel Harms.

Where He Wins

1 of 4
Texas A&M v LSU

- Creating and improvising with his legs. Reed is a dynamic runner on designed QB keepers and improvisational scrambles. He is an elusive runner who makes defenders miss with his stop/start ability. He forces defenses to play disciplined football.

- When protected, he surveys the entire field and works through his progressions to find the open receiver. The red-shirt sophomore is a "hit and throw" passer. When his back foot hits at the top of his drop, he effectively gets the ball out of his hand. He thrives connecting with his first read in the progression quickly.

- Reed throws a catchable football. He has a good touch to layer passes in the intermediate area of the field. Displaying good velocity on short passes (ten yards and under).

- The redshirt sophomore possesses arm flexibility. He can alter his arm angle/slot based on the throw.

Areas of Improvement

Texas A&M v Arkansas

- Pocket navigation must improve and develop. Reed tends to reach the apex of his drop and sit at the depth without maneuvering to find open lanes and evade the pass rush. He must become more consistent with his sliding and vertical climbing in the pocket.

- Reed's arm talent is average. His passes sail the further he pushes the football downfield. When throwing downfield, his passes lack control. Throw will get away from him as he muscles them into windows.

- His accuracy and ball placement are inconsistent from the pocket. Reed tends to put the ball in compromising positions. His ball placement doesn't consistently put his receivers out of coverage.

- Reed's footwork is unsettled and lacks calmness inside the pocket. He is consistently toesy and bouncy in the pocket, leading to inaccurate throws. Throwing from a sound and strong base will help improve his accuracy and ball placement.
