Bo Bichette's MLB Free Agent Value Reportedly Spikes After Blue Jays' World Series Run

Adam WellsNov 11, 2025

On the heels of an impressive World Series in which he was still physically compromised from a knee injury, Bo Bichette's free-agent stock received a nice boost.

Per MLB Network's Jon Morosi, Bichette has "augmented his value" with multiple teams showing interest in him as a potential option at second or third base if he moves off his regular position at shortstop.

Despite the possibility of having Bichette potentially play a new position going forward, Morosi added the "majority of interest" in him thus far has been from teams that view him as a shortstop.

Bichette hit .348/.444/.478 in the Fall Classic against the Los Angeles Dodgers and looked like the hero for most of Game 7 when his three-run homer in the bottom of the third off Shohei Ohtani gave the Toronto Blue Jays a 3-0 lead.

The stat line is even more impressive considering Bichette suffered a sprained knee in a collision at home plate during a Sept. 6 game against the New York Yankees. He missed the final 20 games of the regular season and Toronto's first two playoff rounds.

Bichette's speed had already started to wane even before the injury, but he would have ranked among the slowest players in MLB with his foot speed in the World Series.

There are some reasons to be concerned about Bichette's long-term value on a free-agent contract, not least of which is his declining speed. Injuries have caused him to miss 131 games since the start of the 2023 season.

Even if Bichette were to sign with a team as their shortstop for the upcoming season, it likely wouldn't take long before he had to switch positions. The two-time All-Star ranks as the sixth-worst defensive player in all of MLB by defensive runs saved since the 2021 season.

The reasons to be optimistic about Bichette on a long-term deal are his age and hit tool. He is very young for a veteran free agent—he turns 28 on March 5—and has done nothing but hit whenever he stays healthy.

Bichette has a .292/.335/.460 slash line in 673 games since 2021. His 134 wRC+ in 2025 was the highest of his career in a 162-game season. Geraldo Perdomo of the Arizona Diamondbacks was the only shortstop with a higher wRC+ last season (minimum 450 plate appearances).

When you combine that offensive profile with the shallow group of free-agent infielders, particularly those capable of playing in the middle of the diamond, it's not hard to surmise why Bichette is likely going to receive one of the biggest contracts this offseason.
